Terry Brooks

Terry Brooks is a distinguished author from America, best known for his work in the epic fantasy and urban fantasy genres. He is particularly famous for his Shannara series, which includes more than twenty novels. Besides the Shannara series, Brooks has written one other series, the Magic Kingdom of Landover, and has also contributed to the world of fantasy through novelizations of major motion pictures such as Hook and Star Wars Episode I: Phantom Menace.

Brooks was born in Illinois in 1944 and spent a significant portion of his childhood and early adulthood dreaming up stories in and around Sinnissippi Park. His love for storytelling led him to pursue English Literature in college, and later, he attended the School of Law at Washington & Lee University. It was during his time in college that he discovered J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, a work that would have a profound impact on his life and writing. Inspired by Tolkien's great work, Brooks wrote The Sword of Shannara, a novel that would become the first work of fiction ever to appear on the New York Times trade paperback bestseller list, where it remained for over five months.

Over the course of his career, Brooks has written more than twenty-five novels, many of which have been featured on the New York Times bestselling list. His Genesis of Shannara novels, Armageddon's Children and The Elves of Cintra, are particularly notable, as are his contributions to the Voyage of the Jerle Shannara and High Druid of Shannara trilogies. In addition to his original works, Brooks has also written non-fiction, including the book "Sometimes the Magic Works: Lessons from a Writing Life," and has contributed to the Star Wars universe through his novelization of Star Wars(R): Episode I The Phantom Menace. Despite his many accomplishments, Brooks remains a humble and dedicated writer, living with his wife, Judine, in the Pacific Northwest.
