Tasha Suri

Tasha Suri is a highly acclaimed author, known for her fantasy, science fiction, and epic fantasy novels. Born in Harrow, North-West London, Suri was inspired by India's medieval and early modern Mughal Empire for her debut fantasy series, The Books of Ambha. Her first novel in the series, Empire of Sand, was published in 2018 and quickly gained recognition, earning nominations for the British Fantasy and Locus Awards. Suri's personal experiences of visiting India during her childhood holidays have significantly influenced her writing, shaping her understanding of the country's diverse cultures, rich heritage, and history.

In addition to her writing, Suri has pursued a formal education in creative writing and English, earning a bachelor's degree from Warwick University. She is currently employed at a library in London, where she resides. Suri's talent as a writer has been acknowledged with several awards, including the Best Newcomer (Sydney J. Bounds) Award from the British Fantasy Society and the Starburst Brave New Words Award. Her debut novel, Empire of Sand, was also named one of the 100 best fantasy books of all time by TIME magazine.

Suri's work has been praised for its unique storytelling, imaginative world-building, and exploration of complex themes. Her writing is deeply rooted in her South Asian heritage, and she has a passion for researching and learning about South Asian history. When she's not writing, Suri enjoys indulging in her geeky interests, watching TV shows, and buying notebooks. She lives in a mildly haunted house in London with her family and cats. Suri's sequel to Empire of Sand, Realm of Ash, was published in November 2019.
