Robert J. Conley was an American and Cherokee author, who was born on December 29, 1940, in Cushing, Oklahoma. He passed away on February 16, 2014, leaving behind a legacy of fiction writing that explored his Native American heritage. Known by his full given name, Robert Jackson Conley, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007 from the Native Writers' Circle of the Americas.

As a Cherokee author and an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation, a federally recognized tribe of American Indians, Conley's work often reflected his cultural background and experiences.
