He was born in Baltimore, Maryland and received his education from reputable institutions, earning a Bachelor of Science in journalism from Northwestern University and a law degree from the University of Southern California.
After completing his education, Hirsch worked as a journalist in Atlanta for several years, including a stint as an assistant editor of a business magazine. He also published and edited an entertainments and arts magazine in Atlanta.
