Ray Nayler is a highly regarded literary fiction author, best known for his debut novel "The Mountain in the Sea." Born in Quebec, Canada, Nayler spent a significant portion of his childhood in Fremont, California. His mother, a hardware engineer, played a significant role in shaping his early life.
Nayler has received critical acclaim for his short stories, which have been published in numerous prominent science fiction and fantasy magazines. These include Asimov's, Clarkesworld, Analog, The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, Lightspeed, and Nightmare. His work has also been featured in several "Best Of" anthologies, such as "The Very Best of the Best: 35 Years of The Year’s Best Science Fiction." Locus Online has praised Nayler as "one of the up-and-coming masters of SF short fiction."
Throughout his life, Nayler has lived and worked outside of the United States in both the Foreign Service and the Peace Corps. He has held various roles in these organizations, including a position as Environment, Science, Technology, and Health Officer at the U.S. consulate in Ho Chi Minh City. In September 2022, Nayler will begin a new chapter in his career as the international advisor to the Office of National Marine Sanctuaries at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
