Patrick Süskind

Patrik Suskind, a German writer and screenwriter, was born on March 26, 1949, in Ambach, Bavaria. He completed his studies in medieval and modern history in Munich and Aix-en-Provence from 1968 to 1974. However, Suskind's professional career did not commence until the 1980s when he gained recognition as a screenwriter for popular television series such as Kir Royal and Monaco Franze. Before his success in the 1980s, Suskind spent the 1970s writing unpublished prose pieces and unproduced screenplays.

Patrik Suskind gained literary fame in the 1980s with the success of his monodrama Der Kontrabass (The Double Bass) in 1981, which became an instant hit and a favorite in German theaters. Suskind's literary prowess was further confirmed in 1985 with the publication of his novel Das Parfüm. Die Geschichte eines Mörders (Perfume: The Story of a Murderer). The book quickly topped the European best-seller list and went on to sell millions of copies worldwide, cementing Suskind's status as a literary wunderkind. His novel "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer" was later adapted into a film directed by Tom Tykwer.
