Patrick Rothfuss

Patrick Rothfuss is an acclaimed American author, best known for his fantasy novels, particularly the Kingkiller Chronicle series. He was born in Madison, Wisconsin, and grew up in a typical American family. From a young age, Rothfuss was an avid reader, reading up to two novels a day. This love for reading eventually translated into a passion for writing. He is known for his gothic appearance, with long hair and a beard, which complements his genre of writing.

Rothfuss earned his B.S. in English from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point in 1999. During his time there, he wrote for the campus newspaper, The Pointer. He then pursued his M.A. from Washington State University before returning to the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point to teach. Rothfuss's writing career took off when he became a #1 New York Times bestselling author, and he has since won several awards for his work, including the Quill Award, David Gemmell Legend Award, and Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice Award for Best Epic Fantasy.

Rothfuss's journey to becoming a successful author began in high school, where he was a class clown and a geek who loved to read and write. He enrolled in the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point in 1991, initially to pursue a career in chemical engineering, but he changed his major multiple times before finally settling on English. During his time in college, Rothfuss wrote a satirical advice column called The College Survival Guide, which he continues to this day.

After graduating in 2000, Rothfuss attended grad school for English literature, but he disliked it and left in 2002 with his master's degree. He then became an assistant-sub-lecturer at his alma mater, where he taught half-time and advised various student groups. During this time, Rothfuss's novel was rejected by numerous agents, but he eventually found success with the help of a talented agent and editor. His first book, "The Name of the Wind," was published in 2007 and became a bestseller in 26 foreign countries, winning several awards. Rothfuss is known for his unique writing style and his ability to captivate audiences with his storytelling.
