Pat Cadigan

Pat Cadigan is a renowned science fiction author, who was born in New York but spent much of her childhood in Massachusetts. She is often referred to as one of the original cyberpunk writers, with her work exploring the relationship between the human mind and technology. Cadigan's first novel, Mindplayers, introduced the theme of making the human mind a real and explorable place, and her second novel, Synners, expanded upon this idea. Her writing has earned her numerous awards, including the prestigious Arthur C. Clarke Award twice, in 1992 for Synners and in 1995 for Fools.

Cadigan is currently living in London, England with her family. She has had a successful career as a writer, with her work spanning various genres including fantasy, horror, young adult, and nonfiction. In addition to her original novels, she has also written media tie-in work, such as the novelisation of William Gibson’s unproduced screenplay for what would have been the third Aliens movie. Cadigan is known for her unique storytelling style, which often blurs the line between reality and perception.

In recent years, Cadigan has been keeping a blog about her experiences as a cancer patient, providing dispatches from what she calls “Cancerland.” She has been open about her battle with an inoperable and incurable form of recurrent endometrial cancer, which she was diagnosed with in late 2014. Despite being given a grim prognosis, Cadigan has remained determined and has continued to write, keeping a positive attitude and finding humor in her experiences. She has been recognized for her resilience and her writing, winning the Scribe Award for Best Novelisation for Alita Battle Angel in 2020 and again in 2022 for Alien 3, the novelisation of William Gibson’s unproduced screenplay.
