Nancy Kress

Nancy Kress is a accomplished American author, who has also published work under the name Anna Kendall. In addition to her writing, Kress has worked on various movie sets. She began her writing career in 1976, but it was her 1991 novella "Beggars in Spain" that brought her the greatest recognition, earning her both Hugo and Nebula awards. The novella was later expanded into a novel with the same title.

Kress is highly regarded in the science fiction genre, with her work winning numerous awards. She has won six Nebulas, two Hugos, a Sturgeon, and the John W. Campbell Memorial Award. Many of her stories explore the topic of genetic engineering, including her acclaimed science-fiction novel "Beggars in Spain." Her fiction has been translated into several languages, including Swedish, Danish, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Polish, Croatian, Chinese, Lithuanian, Romanian, Japanese, Korean, Hebrew, Russian, and Klingon.

In addition to her work as a writer, Kress is also an experienced teacher. She has been a regular instructor at Clarion writing workshops and at The Writers Center in Bethesda, Maryland. During the Winter of 2008/09, Kress served as the Picador Guest Professor for Literature at the University of Leipzig's Institute for American Studies in Leipzig, Germany. She continues to teach and lecture at various venues around the country and abroad, including a visiting lectureship at the University of Leipzig, a 2017 writing class in Beijing, and the annual intensive workshop TaosToolbox. Kress currently resides in Seattle with her husband, writer Jack Skillingstead, and Pippin, their Chihuahua.
