Maureen Jennings

Maureen Jennings is an English-Canadian author, well-known for her mystery novels, particularly those set in historical settings. She was born in Birmingham, England, and emigrated to Canada as a teenager. Despite her move, Jennings maintains a strong connection to her home country. Her love for the Victorian period, which she was exposed to during her formative years in England, is evident in her writing.

Jennings earned her MA in English literature at the University of Toronto and began her career as an English teacher at Ryerson. During her tenure, she taught several future successful writers, including Eric Wright, Graeme Gibson, and Peter Such. After eight years of teaching, Jennings decided to pursue a career as a psychotherapist, a field she had been interested in for a long time. She has been in private practice since 1972, although she now primarily focuses on conducting creative expression groups and writing.
