Mark Stevens is a mystery author who was born to two librarians and spent his childhood in Lincoln, Massachusetts. His upbringing by parents who were both librarians instilled in him a deep love for literature and storytelling. After finishing his education, Stevens embarked on a career in journalism, working as a news producer on national television, a reporter, and in public relations. His time as a journalist saw him working for the “Christian Science Monitor” in Los Angeles and Boston, as well as for the Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News. He also produced documentaries in Latin America and the United States.
In the world of fiction, Stevens is best known as the author of “The Allison Coil Mystery” series, which is set in the Flat Tops Wilderness in Colorado. The series includes several novels, including “Antler Dust,” “Buried by the Roan,” “Trapline,” “Lake of Fire,” and “The Melancholy Howl.” The 2014 published novel “Trapline” won the Colorado Book Award, while “Buried by the Roan” and “Lake of Fire” were finalists for the same award in 2012 and 2016, respectively. Stevens has also had several of his short fiction pieces published in various anthologies, including “Denver Noir,” “Mystery Tribune,” and “Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine.”
In addition to his work as an author, Stevens is also the host of the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers podcast and regularly writes reviews for the Four Corners Free Press, and the New York Journal of Books. He was named the Writer of the Year by the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers in 2016. Currently, Stevens makes his home in the town of Mancos in Colorado, where he continues to write and publish his work. His most recent publication is “The Fireballer,” a non-mystery novel published by Lake Union in 2023.
