In her early life, O'Clare began reading romance novels and found herself wanting to improve the stories she read. This led her to start writing her own novels, purely for her own satisfaction. She wrote eight full-length novels in her early years, all but one of which would later be published. O'Clare's first published book was with a small epublisher called Amber Quill Press in 2003, and she has since published over 60 books.
In addition to writing for Ellora's Cave, O'Clare has also sold books to St. Martin's Press and Kensington Press. She is a full-time writer and plans to continue writing until she dies, stating that there is nothing more fulfilling than creating a new world and walking through it with the people who live there.
