Lizzie Damilola Blackburn is a British-Nigerian writer who was born and raised in Peckham. She is passionate about telling stories that she and her friends longed to experience but never had the chance to. Growing up, Blackburn may not have seen many stories that represented her own experiences as a British-Nigerian woman, and so she has made it her goal to create those narratives for others to enjoy.
In 2019, Blackburn won the Literary Consultancy Pen Factor Writing Competition with the early draft of her debut novel, "Yinka, Where is your Huzband?" She wrote the book while working at Carers UK, demonstrating her ability to balance her career with her passion for writing. The title of her novel is a nod to the question she has been asked many times throughout her life, and it reflects the experiences of many British-Nigerian women. Despite being asked this question frequently, Blackburn has found love and now lives with her husband in Milton Keynes. Through her writing, Blackburn is creating the representation she wishes she had seen growing up, and she is doing so in a way that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.
