Lisa Gregory is the pen name of the acclaimed American author Candace Pauline Camp. Born on May 23, 1949, in Amarillo, Texas, Camp is the youngest of three children born into a newspaper family. From a young age, Camp was interested in creating stories and used to make up her own as a child, which she would act out with whatever objects she had around her. She began writing down her stories when she was about 10, and from then on, writing became her favorite form of relaxation.
As a child, Candace Camp was very shy and found it difficult to express her thoughts and feelings. However, she discovered that she could express herself freely through writing. After completing her education, Camp worked as a secondary teacher and later in the trust department of a bank. It was during this time that she discovered the romance novel in its modern form and started writing her first romance. She also began law school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she honed her writing skills and learned the discipline necessary to finish a book.
Candace Camp published her first novel, Bonds of Love, in 1978 under the pseudonym Lisa Gregory. She has since written under two other pseudonyms, Kristin James and Sharon Stephens, before finally writing under her own name. She is married to Pete Hopcus since 1980 and has a daughter, Anastasia Hopcus, who is also a writer. Camp's novels have been published in several languages and have won her numerous awards and accolades. She continues to write and create stories, drawing inspiration from the world around her.
