Koushun Takami

Koshun Takami is a distinguished Japanese author and journalist, best known for his novel "Battle Royale." Takami was born on January 10, 1969, in Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture, near Osaka, and spent his formative years in the Kagawa Prefecture of Shikoku. After completing his literature degree at Osaka University, he enrolled in Nihon University's liberal arts correspondence course but did not finish.

Before becoming an author, Takami worked as a reporter for the Shikoku Shimbun news company from 1991 to 1996. During his time there, he covered various fields, including politics, police reports, and economics. Takami's experience in journalism provided him with a deep understanding of Japanese society, which he would later incorporate into his writing. His novel "Battle Royale" was completed after leaving the news company and explores themes of violence, survival, and societal control.

Despite the novel's controversial content, it became a bestseller in Japan when it was finally released in 1999. A year later, it was adapted into a manga and a feature film.
