Kathryn Lasky

Kathryn Lasky is a prominent American author, well-known for her work in children's fiction and non-fiction. She has written numerous series, including "Guardians of Ga'Hoole," "Wolves of the Beyond," and "Daughters of the Sea," among others. Lasky also contributes to series such as "Dear America" and "The Royal Diaries." For her adult-oriented work, she uses her married name, Kathryn Lasky Knight, or the pen name E.L. Swann.

Raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, Lasky earned her Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Michigan and her Master's degree in Early Childhood Education from Wheelock College. She currently resides in Massachusetts with her husband and frequent collaborator, photographer Christopher Knight. Lasky's childhood was spent in a large house with a garage and a pond at the bottom, where she enjoyed skating during the winter. Her mother, known for her intelligence and honesty, encouraged Lasky to become a writer, recognizing her potential early on.

Lasky's father, a self-made businessman and successful athlete, was also a significant influence in her life. He was the first Jewish baby born in Minnesota, and his birth was an event that drew much attention from the local community. Growing up, Lasky had gray hair, wrinkles, and a great sense of humor. She spent much of her time with her dog, Suzy, teaching her circus tricks and dress her up in skirts with hats. Lasky's childhood experiences and the influence of her parents have undoubtedly shaped her writing career, contributing to her success as a beloved children's author.
