Kate Winkler Dawson

Kate Winkler Dawson is a non-fiction, history, and crime author, best known for her debut novel "Death in the Air." Dawson has built a successful career in television, spanning over twenty-five years, where she worked as a writer, line producer, and field producer for several leading news companies in the United States. She began her television career at "KVUE-24" in Austin, before moving on to "KEYE 42." During her time at Boston University, where she pursued a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism, Dawson worked for "WLVI" as a political field producer in Boston. She played a critical role in the coverage of the New Hampshire presidential primaries in 1996. The following year, she moved to London to work as a United Press International wire service reporter while completing her final semester at Boston University.

After graduating from college, Dawson joined "WCBS," the flagship station for "CBS" in New York, where she worked as a field producer and writer. She spent five years as a freelance producer and then two more years freelancing as an off-air reporter/producer for "ABC Network News Radio." Dawson also worked as a freelance show producer for several top shows on "Fox News" and spent two years as a staff field producer for the San Francisco Bureau of "Fox News," traveling all across the US working on national news.

In addition to her work in television, Dawson is also a senior lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin's School of Journalism, a position she has held since 2009. Before then, she taught at Fordham University's Marymount College for two years. Dawson is a seasoned documentary producer, news writer, and TV news producer, and her work has been featured in several prominent publications, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, United Press International in London, WCBS News, ABC News Radio, Fox News Channel, "PBS NewsHour," and "Nightline." Dawson is also a board member of the Texas Center for Actual Innocence and lives in Austin, Texas, with her family. "Death in the Air" is her debut book.
