Kate Rhodes is a distinguished British author, well-known for her crime fiction novels and poetry. Born in London in 1964, Rhodes completed her graduation in Cambridge and pursued her Ph.D. on Tennessee Williams' work at Essex University in 1993. Following her doctorate, she embarked on a teaching career, taking up a job at a school and later becoming a lecturer in university. However, her passion for writing led her to pursue a full-time career as a crime novelist.
Rhodes is particularly famous for her Alice Quentin series, which features the lead character as a forensic psychologist living in London. The first novel of this series was published in 2012, and since then, she has written several other successful books, including the Isles of Scilly mysteries. Her books have been nominated for prestigious awards such as the Crime Novel of the Year award and the Library Dagger award. Rhodes' love for the Isles of Scilly, where she holidayed as a child, is evident in her writing, as she continues to visit the islands to research for her books.
Apart from her successful career as a crime novelist, Rhodes is also an accomplished poet. Her debut poetry collection, Reversal, was released in 2005 by the Enitharmon Press. She has won several awards for her poetry collections, including the Ruth Rendell prize in 2015 for one of her short stories. Rhodes is happily married to Dave Prescod, a filmmaker and writer, and they live together in Cambridge. In 2018, she began a new crime series, with the first novel, Hell Bay, set on a distant Cornish island called Bryher, featuring DI Ben Kitto as the chief protagonist.
