Jenny Nimmo

Jenny Nimmo is a highly regarded British author, known for her exceptional work in children's fantasy and adventure novels, as well as chapter and picture books. Born in Windsor, England, Nimmo spent her childhood immersed in reading and writing, which would eventually lead to her successful career as an author. After working in theatre and for the BBC, she transitioned into writing full-time.

Nimmo is perhaps best known for her Magician Trilogy and Charlie Bone series, both of which have received critical acclaim and a dedicated following. Her writing is characterized by its creativity, imagination, and ability to transport young readers into new worlds.

Beyond her writing, Nimmo is also married to artist and illustrator David Wynn Millward, with whom she lives in Wales. She was born on January 15, 1944, and has three grown-up children, Myfawny, Ianto, and Gwenwyfar.

Nimmo's upbringing and early career had a significant impact on her writing. After attending boarding schools in Kent and Surrey from the age of six, she ran away to become a drama student and stage manager with Theater South East. She later acted in repertory theater in various towns and cities, and even spent time teaching English in Italy. These experiences helped shape her perspective and no doubt influenced her storytelling abilities.

After joining the BBC and working as a picture researcher, assistant floor manager, studio manager, and director/adaptor with Jackanory, Nimmo left to marry her husband and move to Wales. There, they live in a converted watermill and run a residential school of art during the summer. Despite the challenges of balancing her writing with her other responsibilities, Nimmo has established herself as a beloved and prolific author of children's literature.
