Helen Sedgwick is a contemporary and science fiction author, hailing from the Scottish Highlands. She has a strong background in education, with a Master's degree in Creative Writing in Literature from Glasgow University. Sedgwick's exceptional literary talent was recognized early on, when she won the New Writers Award from the Scottish Book Trust for her short fiction.
Sedgwick has had a successful writing career, with her debut novel "The Comet Seekers" being named as one of the best books of the year in 2016 by The Herald and Glamour. Her second novel, "The Growing Season," was shortlisted for Fiction Book of the Year by the Saltire Society. In 2020, she released "When The Dead Come Calling," the first book in her new "Burrowhead Mystery" series.
Before becoming a full-time writer, Sedgwick worked in various roles within the publishing industry. She has served as the managing editor at Gutter, managing director at Cargo publishing, literary editor, and founded of the Wildland Literary Editors agency. She has also worked as a reviewer, creative writing tutor, publisher, freelance editor, and mentor. Sedgwick's writing is informed by her diverse background, having graduated from Bristol University with a degree in physics before earning her doctorate from Edinburgh University. She pursued a career as a research physicist at Edinburgh University before turning to fiction writing.
Sedgwick was born in London but has lived in Glasgow and Edinburgh. However, she now resides in the Scottish Highlands, finding the tranquility perfect for a life of writing. Sedgwick's writing is internationally recognized and has been published in seven countries, including the UK, US, and Canada. She is represented by Cathryn Summerhayes of Curtis Brown. Sedgwick's accolades include being shortlisted for the Scottish Fiction Book of the Year in 2018 and winning a Scottish Book Trust New Writers Award. Her writing has also been broadcast on BBC Radio 4.
