Graham Greene

Graham Greene was a critically acclaimed English author, known for his contribution to literary fiction and thriller novels, non-fiction, short stories, poetry, plays, and screenplays. He was born on October 2, 1904, in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, England, and died on April 3, 1991, in Vevey, Switzerland. Greene was regarded as one of the greatest writers of the twentieth century, having gained both popularity and literary acclaim early in his career. His writing often explored ambivalent moral and political issues of the world at the time, and he was known for his use of Catholic themes, although he objected to being referred to as a "Catholic novelist."

Greene's family was a large and influential one at the time, and he was born into the family that owned the Greene King Brewery. He studied at the Berkhamsted School, where his father used to work as a teacher and headmaster. Greene's writing was known to combine serious literary acclaim with wide popularity. He wrote a total of 25 books over the course of his 67-year writing career, all of which explored the grave political and moral issues of the world from a Catholic perspective.

Greene is particularly known for his novels that reflect his ardent Catholic beliefs, such as "The Power and the Glory" (1940). His writing is characterized by its exploration of the ambivalent moral and political issues of the modern world. Despite Catholic religious themes being at the root of much of his writing, Greene objected strongly to being described as a "Catholic novelist." He is known to have written four major Catholic novels: "Brighton Rock," "The Heart of the Matter," "The End of the Affair," and "The Power and the Glory." Other works, such as "The Quiet American," "Our Man in Havana," and "The Human Factor," show Greene's avid interest in the workings of international politics and espionage. Greene was inducted into the Order of Merit and the Companions of Honour for his contribution to literature. He was shortlisted for the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1967.
