Gianna Linscott is a renowned British author, celebrated for her significant contributions to historical fiction and mystery genres. She is best known for her Nell Bray series of novels, featuring a suffragette detective as the lead character. Born in 1944 in Windsor, England, Linscott was the daughter of a shoe shop manager, Thomas Snow, and a shop assistant, Muriel Rosaline.
After completing her education at Somerville College, Oxford, in 1966, Linscott embarked on a career in journalism. She worked for various media outlets, including the Guardian and the BBC. During the 1970s, she reported on the Troubles in Northern Ireland and covered parliamentary proceedings. However, she later turned her attention to crime fiction writing, publishing her debut novel, "A Healthy Body," in 1984.
Linscott's Nell Bray novels have received critical acclaim, winning the Best International Historical Mystery Novel at the Herodotus Award and the Ellis Peters/CWA Historical Dagger Award in 2000. In addition to the Nell Bray series, Linscott has also written the Victorian Era Liberty Lane series under the pseudonym Caro Peacock. When she is not writing, Linscott enjoys gardening and maintains a garden with rows of lettuce in her backyard.
Gillian Linscott introduced her popular suffragette/sleuth, Nell Bray, in the critically acclaimed Sister Beneath the Sheet. After working as a BBC reporter, Linscott became a full-time writer and now lives in Herefordshire, England. She has also published several titles under the pseudonym Caro Peacock.
