George R.R. Martin

George R.R. Martin, also known as GRRM, is an acclaimed American author born on September 20, in New Jersey. He is a versatile writer, having published short stories, novels, produced and scenarized television series, and worked as a journalist. Moreover, he is an avid chess fan, having organized many competitions. Martin is best known for his international bestselling series "A Song of Ice and Fire," which was adapted into the popular HBO television series "Game of Thrones."

Martin's writing career began in 1971 when he sold his first story, "The Hero," to Galaxy magazine. He has since published numerous stories and novels, many of which have been adapted for television and film. Before becoming a full-time writer, Martin received a B.S. in Journalism from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, and worked as a VISTA Volunteer, chess director, and teacher. He later moved to Hollywood, where he worked as a story editor for Twilight Zone and an executive story consultant for Beauty and the Beast.

Martin's achievements include being named as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine in 2011. He currently resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico, with his wife Parris MacBride and his two cats, Augustus and Caligula. In addition to "A Song of Ice and Fire," Martin has written many other novels, including "A Game of Thrones," "A Clash of Kings," "A Storm of Swords," "A Feast for Crows," and "A Dance with Dragons." He is also a member of Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America and Writers' Guild of America, West.
