Dick Couch is a highly respected author and professor, who has made a name for himself through his military fiction novels and non-fiction books. Originally from Mississippi, Couch was raised in Southern Indiana and went on to attend the U.S. Naval Academy, graduating in 1967.
After his graduation, Couch completed a training in DASH controller and joined the naval destroyer USS Mansfield DD728. In 1969, he graduated from the Basic Underwater Demolition and passed with first class grades from the HALO and Navy Swimming School. Couch's first mission was with SEAL Team One as the commander of Whiskey Platoon in Vietnam, where he carried out several successful POW rescue operations.
After his active duty, Couch joined the CIA as a case officer of paramilitary and military. He retired from the Naval Reserve in 1997 from the post of Captain, having held the senior command billet in the SEAL's reserve community. Couch and his wife, Julia, currently reside in Idaho, where he serves as an Ethics Professor at the U.S. Naval Academy.
As a novelist, Couch has enjoyed great success, with his articles and novels featured in leading outlets such as the New York Times, Boston Globe, Wall Street Journal, and Seattle Post Intelligencer, among others. He has co-authored several novels, one of which reached the fourth spot on the New York Times bestseller list.
In addition to his fiction works, Couch has also written several non-fiction books, including "Down Range," "The Finishing School," and "The Warrior Elite." He is a highly decorated and respected figure in the military and literary communities, with a wealth of experience and knowledge that informs his writing.
