David Young is a British writer, born near Hull, who has made a name for himself in the genre of mystery thriller novels. His ability to create suspense and tension, along with his meticulous attention to historical detail, sets him apart in the field of crime fiction. Young studied History at Bristol Polytechnic, which has provided him with a solid foundation for his writing. This background in history is evident in his work, as he manages to convey a strong sense of realism and accuracy in his stories.
After his academic pursuits, Young worked in various temporary jobs before embarking on a career in journalism. He gained experience with provincial newspapers, a London news agency, and the BBC’s international newsrooms, leading news teams for World Service radio and World TV. His time in journalism has undoubtedly honed his storytelling skills and attention to detail, further enhancing his ability to craft compelling narratives.
Young pursued further education in the field of crime fiction, graduating from the inaugural Crime Thriller MA at City University. His debut novel, Stasi Child, earned him the course prize in 2014 and marked the beginning of the Oberleutnant Karin Müller series. Set in 1970s communist East Germany, Stasi Child became a top 5 bestseller on Amazon Kindle and reached number one in Amazon’s Historical Fiction chart. The novel has also been optioned for TV by Euston Films and has had translation rights sold to France. The success of Stasi Child led to the publication of two more books in the series, further solidifying Young's reputation in the genre. In his spare time, Young is a dedicated supporter of Hull City AFC.
