Dave Rudden

Dave Rudden is an Irish author known for his contributions to science fiction and fantasy literature, particularly through his critically acclaimed "Knights of the Borrowed Dark" trilogy. His debut novel, published when he was twenty-six, marked the beginning of a successful writing career that has expanded into multiple genres and mediums. Beyond novels, Rudden has written for "Doctor Who," crafted plays, TV scripts, music videos, and role-playing games, showcasing his versatility as a storyteller.

Rudden's journey into writing began with live storytelling events in Dublin before transitioning to written works, with his short stories appearing in publications such as "Bare Hands," "The Stinging Fly," and "The Quotable." His early recognition includes winning the Fantasy Book Review Short Story Prize in 2013 and being shortlisted for the Hennessy New Writing Award and the Bath Short Story Prize. A graduate of the UCD Creative Writing Masters program, he developed the first chapter of "Knights of the Borrowed Dark" during his studies, later securing representation from literary agent Clare Wallace. Rudden's writing often explores themes of monsters, adolescence, and resilience, blending dark fantasy with sharp wit.

In addition to his creative work, Rudden is an educator, teaching creative writing at University College Dublin and serving as Dublin City University’s Artist in Residence. He has engaged with audiences globally, visiting over nine hundred schools and libraries to discuss writing, mental health, and storytelling. With two new series slated for release in 2025, Rudden continues to expand his literary footprint while inspiring aspiring writers through workshops and mentorship.
