Daniel Easterman is the pseudonym used by the prolific British author Denis M. MacEoin for his works in the genres of mystery, thriller, science fiction, non-fiction, and fantasy. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1949, Easterman has had a distinguished career as a writer and analyst, with a particular focus on Eastern religions and cultures. He is known for his in-depth knowledge and analysis of current events in the Middle East, having published numerous essays on the subject since 2014 at the Gatestone Institute, where he was also a Senior Fellow.
Prior to his career as a novelist and analyst, Easterman received an extensive education in English Literature, Arabic, Islamic Studies, and Persian. He studied at Dublin University's Trinity College and Edinburgh University, before completing his Ph.D. research on heterodox movements in nineteenth-century Shi'ism of Iran, Babism and Shaykhism, at King's College in Cambridge. Between 1970 and 1980, Easterman taught Islamic Civilization, Arabic to English translation, and English at Mohammad V. University in Fez, Morocco, but resigned due to disputes related to contract changes, payment, and working environment.
In addition to his work as Daniel Easterman, he also writes under the pen name Jonathan Aycliffe. His novels have gained a wide following and are known for their intricate plotlines and deep exploration of complex themes. Despite his success as a novelist, Easterman remains committed to his academic pursuits and continues to write essays and analysis on the Middle East and other topics of interest.
