Craig Rice

Craig Rice is the pen name of Georgiana Ann Randolph Craig, an American author born on June 5, 1908, in Chicago, Illinois. She is celebrated for her significant contribution to the mystery genre, particularly for her John J. Malone series. Craig Rice's writing style is renowned for its unique blend of hardboiled detective fiction and screwball comedy, setting her apart from her contemporaries.

Georgiana Ann Randolph Craig, who also wrote under the pseudonyms Daphne Sanders and Michael Venning, was a prolific author, producing twenty-three novels, six of which were published posthumously. In addition to her novels, she wrote numerous short stories and some true crime pieces. During the 1940s, her sales rivaled those of Agatha Christie, and she achieved the significant milestone of being the first female author to ever appear on the cover of Time Magazine in 1946. Despite her success during her active years, Craig Rice has unfortunately faded into relative obscurity over the past six decades.
