Caitlín R. Kiernan

Caitlin R. Kiernan is a prominent American author, renowned for her works in the genres of science fiction, weird fantasy, and dark fantasy. She was born on May 26, 1964, in Dublin, Ireland, and later moved to the United States with her mother, Susan Cleveland, during her childhood. Kiernan spent a significant part of her formative years in Leeds, Alabama, where she developed an early interest in paleontology, fiction writing, and herpetology.

Kiernan's fascination with paleontology led her to study vertebrate paleontology and geology in college. She worked as a teacher and in a museum before embarking on her fiction writing career. In 1988, Kiernan wrote a paper that described the species and genus of mosasaur, Selmasaurus. Her debut novel, The Five of Cups, was penned in 1992 but remained unpublished until 2003. Kiernan's first published book, Silk, came out in 1998, and her debut short story, Persephone, a dark science fiction tale, was published in 1995.

Caitlín Rebekah Kiernan is an Irish-born American published paleontologist and author of science fiction and dark fantasy works, including ten novels, series of comic books, and more than two hundred and fifty published short stories, novellas, and vignettes. Kiernan's scientific research has been published in several notable journals, including the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology and the Journal of Paleontology.

In addition to her writing, Kiernan has had a varied career, including fronting the goth-rock band Death's Little Sister in 1996-1997. She is also known for her love of sushi and once skinned a lion. Kiernan currently resides in Providence, RI, with her partner, Kathryn, and her two cats, Hubero and Smeagol. She is represented by Writer's House (NYC) and United Talent Agency (LA).
