Andrew Holleran is a renowned author, who writes under the pseudonym Eric Garber. He is a significant figure in the world of post-Stonewall gay literature. Holleran was born in 1943 and spent his formative years in the Dutch Caribbean, on Aruba Island, where his father worked in the oil industry. Following his father's retirement in 1961, the family relocated to a northern Floridan town.
Holleran pursued higher education after graduating from high school, studying American history and literature at Harvard College. His writing is primarily in the genre of gay literary fiction, and he has made substantial contributions to the field. His works have gained him a reputation as a prominent novelist, essayist, and short story writer. Moreover, Holleran was associated with The Violet Quill, a gay writer's group that was active from 1980-81, which further solidified his position in the literary world.
