Alix E. Harrow is a successful American author, known for her work in the science fiction and fantasy genres. Hailing from Kentucky, she considers herself a full-time reader and a part-time history adjunct. Before turning to full-time writing, Harrow worked a variety of jobs, including cashier, ice cream scooper, farm worker, and 9 to 5 office dweller. She has also been a student and teacher.
Harrow made her novel writing debut in 2019 with "The Ten Thousand Doors of January", a work of fantasy. Prior to this, she had built a reputation for herself as a writer of short fiction, winning a Hugo Award in 2019 for her story "A Witch's Guide to Escape: A Practical Compendium of Portal Fantasies". She has had several of her stories published in Strange Horizons and Shimmer. In addition to her work in fantasy, Harrow also writes paranormal, young adult, and historical fiction.
In her personal life, Harrow is a happily married mother of two sons. She and her family live in Berea, Kentucky, where she enjoys gardening, herding pets, and looking after their dilapidated house in her spare time. Harrow has a strong connection to her home state, having been born and raised in Kentucky. She has also worked there as a history adjunct.
Harrow's writing is represented by Kate McKean at Howard Morhaim Literary Agency. She is the author of several novels, including "The Ten Thousand Doors of January", "The Once and Future Witches", and a duology of fairytale novellas. Her next book, "Starlight House", is set to be released on October 3rd, 2023.
