Aliette de Bodard

Aliette de Bodard is a science fiction and fantasy author who was born in the United States but grew up in France. Despite growing up in the beautiful city of Paris, her parents ensured that she spoke English from a young age, and her books are available in the English language. De Bodard is known for her unique storytelling that blends elements of her Vietnamese heritage with science fiction and fantasy themes.

De Bodard has won numerous awards for her work, including three Nebula Awards, an Ignyte Award, a Locus Award, a British Fantasy Award, and four British Science Fiction Association Awards. She was also a double Hugo finalist for 2019 in the categories of Best Series and Best Novella. Her most recent book is Fireheart Tiger, a sapphic romantic fantasy inspired by pre-colonial Vietnam, where a diplomat princess must decide the fate of her country and her own heart. She also wrote Seven of Infinities, a space opera where a sentient spaceship and an upright scholar investigate a murder and find themselves falling for each other.

In addition to her recent works, De Bodard is the author of the critically acclaimed Obsidian and Blood trilogy of Aztec noir fantasies, as well as numerous short stories that have earned her two Nebula Awards, a Locus Award, and two British Science Fiction Association Awards. Her space opera books include The Tea Master and the Detective, a murder mystery set on a space station in a Vietnamese Galactic empire, inspired by the characters of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. Her Dominion of the Fallen series, set in a turn-of-the-century Paris devastated by a magical war, comprises The House of Shattered Wings and its standalone sequel The House of Binding Thorns. De Bodard currently lives and works in Paris.
